The holiday season is here, and with it comes the never-ending excitement to look our best. After all, we, Latinas, enjoy being a little extra when dolling up for a fiesta! Having a hairstyle that makes you feel confident and comfortable is key, whether it’s for festive celebrations, family gatherings, or just cozying up with loved ones. Luckily, you don’t have to spend hours in front of the mirror to achieve gorgeous holiday-ready hair—with just a few simple styles, you can create beautiful looks that suit every hair type, length, and texture. Another bonus? These hairdos are wonderful for the holidays, the new year, and beyond—so don’t be afraid to try them out whenever you’re feeling a little festive!
1. Sleek Low Bun
A sleek low bun with a middle part is stylish yet oh-so-simple to recreate, and it can become the perfect canvas for any hair accessory or different kinds of makeup looks.
Get the Look:
- Start with clean, damp hair. You can also do this on dry hair if you prefer, but damp hair gives a smoother finish. Lu's Control Shampoo and Control Conditioner will help you get frizz-free locks that’ll be easier to manage as you do your bun.
- Create a middle part. Use a rat-tail comb to part your hair straight down the middle. Make sure it’s even on both sides.
- Lock in your look. Use Lu's "Lock the Look" styling cream to tame any flyaways, add shine, and give you long-lasting style. Apply evenly from middle to ends.
- Brush your hair. Detangle your hair with a paddle brush to ensure it’s smooth and free of knots.
- Gather your hair. Pull all your hair back into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Use a hair tie to secure it.
- Create the bun. Twist the ponytail loosely and wrap it around the base to form a bun. Secure it with bobby pins, tucking in any loose strands. (We love these Christmas holly pins for that perfect holiday look.)
- Finish with hairspray. Lightly spray your hair to keep everything in place and smooth out any baby hairs or frizz. Feeling extra? Add some stone-encrusted pins, mistletoe, or a festive bow to up your hairdo game.
2. Tight-Curl Updo
Regardless of the type of curls you’ve got, this easy pineapple updo is a wonder for any special occasion. Here, the bigger and fluffier the hair, the better.
Get the Look:
- Start with clean, damp hair. Whether you have natural curls or not, wash and condition your hair with Lu's Freedom Shampoo and Freedom Conditioner to get voluminous curls that stay hydrated all night long.
- Apply a curl-enhancing product. Use the "Free to Be" Styling Cream, which helps to keep the shape while leaving curls bouncy, shiny, and beautiful.
- Curl your hair (if needed). To perfect your spirals, curl small sections of hair away from your face. For tighter curls, use a smaller barrel (about half an inch). Let the curls cool down before moving on.
- Separate into sections. Divide your hair into three sections: top, middle, and bottom. This will help you build the updo with more control.
- Start pinning the curls. Begin with the bottom section, rolling each curl upwards and securing it with bobby pins. Continue pinning each curl as you move upwards.
- Work your way to the top section. Pin the top curls tightly into place, making sure they’re secure and neat. Alternatively, if your hair is long enough, you can simply use a hair tie to secure the ‘do at the top of your head.
- Finish with hairspray. Once you’re happy with the shape, lightly spray the updo to hold it in place.
3. Modern Finger Waves
A vintage finger wave is a fun and glamorous way to add some old-school charm to your holiday parties. While you can leave them as is, bobby pins will make this timeless look even edgier and modern.
Get the Look:
- Start with damp hair. Lightly towel-dry your hair or spritz it with water. Apply a setting gel, styling cream, or mousse for extra hold and smoothness. Try Lu's “Intense Therapy” Leave-In Cream for this look—created for hair that needs some extra love, its texture is also perfect to control finger waves while giving them hold and shine.
- Create a side part. Use a comb to create a deep side part, preferably on the side you want the waves to be more prominent.
- Section your hair. Divide your hair into small sections, about 1-2 inches wide, to help you focus on creating clean waves.
- Start with the first section. Take a section of hair, and using your fingers, create an S-shape wave by pushing the hair forward and then backward. Hold each wave in place as you go.
- Pin the wave. As you create the wave, immediately pin it in place with bobby pins, securing the shape. Pro tip: make sure to place the pins horizontally, near the scalp, for the most secure hold.
- Continue the process. Work your way around your head, repeating the process for each section of hair. Be sure to alternate the direction of the waves for a uniform look.
- Let it set. Once your waves are pinned, let them set for 20-30 minutes, or longer if you have time.
- Finish with hairspray. Lightly spray your hair to hold the waves in place.
4. Half-Up, Half-Down
This half-up style is one of our favorite looks for the holidays and beyond. A half-up, half-down ‘do is as versatile as it comes, while being a stylish choice for any hair length and texture—it works beautifully whether you have miles-long wavy hair or a stick-straight lob. The best part? You can dress it up or down (no pun intended!) with accessories like bows, satin scarves, pearl bobby pins, or hair brooches. It truly is a hairstyle that’s easy to recreate in minutes—perfect for day-to-night wear, too!
Get the Look:
- Start with clean, dry hair. If your hair is curly or wavy, you might want to enhance your natural hair texture with products that give you volume and definition while preventing knots and frizz—Lu's Freedom Collection hair care system is all you need to start this look right.
- Section off the top half of your hair. Using a comb, divide your hair horizontally about halfway up your head. Secure the top section with a clip or hair tie to keep it out of the way.
- Create the half-up portion. For short hair, you can simply gather the top section and secure it with a cute clip or clear elastic. For longer hair, twist or braid the top section before securing it for extra oomph, just as we show here. These loose, twisted buns are effortless yet cool enough for a festive gathering.
- Secure the hair. Use a small elastic, clip, or bobby pins to hold the half-up portion in place. For a sleeker look, smooth any frizz with a bit of hairspray or pomade.
- Let the bottom half flow. For curly or wavy hair, enhance your natural texture with the "Free to Be" Styling Cream. For straight hair, use the "Lock the Look" Styling Cream to leave it sleek and perfectly styled or add some soft waves with a curling iron.
- Finish with hairspray. Lightly spray your hair to hold the style in place.
5. Bring Out the Bling
Pair your holiday outfit with some festive bling in your hair for an instant edgy hairdo that’s everything but boring. We’re loving this look for pixie hair gals, however, it’s perfect for any type of hair texture or length. It only takes minutes to recreate, and is an ideal quick win if your hair isn’t cooperating or if you don’t have time for a glamorous blow-dry.
Get the Look:
- Start with damp hair. After washing your hair, towel-dry it to remove excess water. The wetter your hair is, the shinier and sleeker your look will be.
- Apply a wet-look gel. Use a generous amount of gel or styling cream for a glossy, wet finish. Rub it evenly between your hands and smooth it through your hair. Try Lu's “Lock the Look” Styling Cream, which adds an extra layer of protection for your hair, and keeps your ‘do just the way you want.
- Style with a comb. Use a fine-toothed comb to smooth and shape your locks. For a more structured style, comb your hair back, to the side, or even slightly forward, depending on your preference.
- Secure with clips. Choose large, statement clips with gems, pearls, or rhinestones for a fun touch. Place them strategically—one at the side, near the temple, or along the back of your head to add glam.
- Set with hairspray. Finish by lightly spraying your hair with a strong-hold hairspray to keep everything in place.
Remember, when it comes to easy hairstyles for the holidays, simplicity and elegance can go hand in hand. The key is finding styles that suit your hair type, celebrate the festive season, and keep you feeling comfortable while looking fabulous. Whether you prefer something sophisticated or playful, the right hair can complement your outfit and enhance the holiday spirit. Most importantly, embrace styles that let you enjoy the festivities without stressing over your hair—because we know how hectic this time of year can be!
